| Drilling for Ice Rescue |
Mon. Jan 18th 2010
After a warm-spell, and a lot of rain, the Branchburg Rescue Squad's volunteers had to adjust their plans for an Ice Rescue training tonight, and went inside. Members had a chance to review all specialized equipment that the Squad carries in case of a person stuck on or fallen threw Ice. The 15 members attending practiced getting dressed into ice rescue suits, also known as "Gumby Suits", using reach and throw devices like rescue poles and "boogie board" style sleds, and finally hooking up an inflatable fire hose that can be used to reach out to someone on broken ice until rescuers can make access.
Look for the Ice Rescue Team volunteers practicing at a frozen pond near you... as soon as the ice returns!

Rescue LT Lloyd helps EMS Sgt Brian Gonzalez into an Ice Rescue "Gumby" Suit during the drill this evening. This suit is used by rescuers before going out onto ice to complete a rescue mission when a victim is stuck on or has fallen through ice.
