Seaside Heights, NJ - Seaside is not just the site for the house shown in the MTV show "Jersey Shore", but it's better known by our community volunteers for their continued involvement in the Law Enforcement Torch Run's 2010 Polar Bear Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics of New Jersey.
An ongoing annual event for our team for approximately 10 years now, sixteen Branchburg Rescue's volunteers, joined those from other local agencies, to be part of the nearly 4000 fund raisers that decided this sunny Saturday morning would be a good day to jump in the 38 degree Atlantic Ocean. Our team was supported with plungers from Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad, Neshanic Vol Fire Dept, Readington Vol Fire Company, as well as family & friends.
This year's team raised over $4,000 to go directly to the Special Olympics. The good news is you can still donate to our team for another few weeks at our team page.
Originally scheduled for a week ago, the plunge was delayed one week for the first time we are aware of in it's 17 years, due to the snow storm last week. We must admit, while it would have been fun plunging in the foot of snow on the beach, the nearly 48 degree sunshine and calmer winds where much better then last weeks alternative.
We look forward to our family, friends and community support for this event in years to come! Thank you to ALL who donated, joined, or supported our team!
